Rotary meeting notes for Dec. 1, 2011
Due to a scheduling conflict with BHCC, our meeting was held in the rear patio at the Ed Brown Senior Center. We dined al fresco on finely prepared box lunches, on a slightly nippy day. President Bill opened the meeting as the club that supports the Ed Brown Senior Center.
Mira Bozanich, using a flag from our Healing Fields fundraiser capably handled the pledge of allegiance. Rick Bramble, using some topically relevant Thomas Jefferson quotes, presented a fine invocation. Jim Wise handled greeting duties unaware that it was his assignment. John O’Neill was the scribe.
Troy Daum presented the Tell-A-Troy report of ailing Rotarians. Jack Mitchell and Bob Kreji are both coming along. If you can, drop them a note. Jeanne Hawkins had an unfortunate accident at home, breaking her toe. We hope all of you are better and back soon!
President Bill presented the following In the Bull’s Eye:
Every year RB Rotary makes sure our seniors are prepared for the cold and flu season by sponsoring and participating in our annual flu shot program. This year, when the RB Senior Center discontinued their program that we actively supported, RB Rotarians Benita Page, Kathleen Smith and David Brooks took action. With their help and the assistance of other key club members, the annual flu shot clinic was brought to the Ed Brown Center.
Troy and John O collected the Presidential and Board position ballots. The slate passed unanimously, as written. Congratulations to the following new board members for 2012-2013 Rotary year commencing July 1st-Gary Saks-President Elect, John Goodrich-Vice President, Jeanne Hawkins-Secretary, Rick Bramble-Member at Large and previously Board appointed incoming President-Dave Brooks.
President Bill reported that the Adopt-A-Family shopping has taken place by professional shoppers Karen Stelman, Tom and Lynn Giles. Distribution is about to begin. Favorable comments of the annual Thanksgiving luncheon were shared. The Miramar/RB poinsettia fundraiser sale flowers are to be distributed next week. Mira thanked each volunteer chair for their tremendous help over the past year. Finemaster John fined everyone who was not wearing a badge, even though Frances Blair had forgotten to bring them to the center. Life is tough. Many Happy Bucks were collected. Thank you for your generosity.
We closed with a reminder that the RB Rotary Happy Hour Meeting is held every Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30pm at the URGE Gastro Pub next to the Barrel Room. All club members are encouraged to attend and to bring a guest.
The meeting was adjourned early.
