Meeting of 9 December 2010
By Jeanne Hawkins, Scribe
President Suzie Lisio called the meeting to order and lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Jim Wise gave a thoughtful invocation. Pres Suzie then thanked: greeter Dave Brooks; set-up crew Paul Donick, Dan Malloy, Gary Saks; and background music provider John Hawkins.
Dave Brooks introduced our guests and our very own band leader Jack Mitchell led us in the special RB Rotary Welcome Song.
Next, Jack Mitchell auctioned a lovely bouquet of fresh flowers donated by Nanelle's Florist. Jim Hyldahl "won" the auction and immediately presented them to "our fair President Suzie Lisio."
Don Lisio gave a sunshine report and announced our Club had donated $750.00 toward the Adopt-A-Family project. Good job everyone!
Suzie reminded us the new online Club Newsletter was in progress and to remain patient while Larry Saunders, John and Jeanne Hawkins continued to build and debug the new online newsletter format. Suzie also thanked Marty Judge for his several years at the helm of the weekly Roundup Newsletter. Kudos from all Club members to Marty!
December birthdays were celebrated. In Suzie's best Marie Antoinette impersonation said, "let them eat cake." Not to be outdone by Mr. John O'Neill who offered a quick course in biology – something about "busy parents in March." The month's birthday cake is donated by Mike Sullivan and his Visiting Angels. Happy birthday to all December babies including Rick Bramble and Dan Malloy and special thanks to Mike!
A final announcement was made regarding the 2010 Holiday Party which is Friday night, December 10, at the home of Jim and Joanne Hyldahl. The bar opens at 6:00PM, followed by dinner and dessert.
Next our fine-master John O'Neil coerced multiple folks into opening their wallets for both fines and Happy Bucks.
Speaker chair Arilla St Laurent introduced Dr. Scott Olson, program director and neurointerventionist at the Palomar-Pomerado Hospital Group who gave a fascinating and educational talk on Strokes and Treatments for Stroke Victims. Lots and lots of good information was given on this leading cause of adult disability and the third greatest cause of death. Treatment is extremely time sensitive. As Dr. Olson said, "if you feel fine one minute and not the next, GO to the hospital now."
Suzie called Kitty Sullivan and the Bernardo Heights Country Club serving and kitchen staff to take a bow and accept appreciation gratuities from our membership. BHCC staff received a rousing applause and standing ovation from the members. And the Chef commented, "Hey, it's ONLY Fried Chicken." But to us, it's a lot more -- and we appreciate the wonderful surroundings, delicious food and great service BHCC provides us each and every week.
Suzie rang the bell – and adjourned the meeting!
