 Club Meeting Highlights

Meeting of 18 November 2010

By John O’Neill, Scribe

President Suzie unfortunately fell ill just before the meeting, and was taken to the hospital. I’m happy to report that Suzie was checked and found to be in good health and will return on December 2nd. The meeting was opened by Charley Crew, who has obviously not lost his presidential skills.

Dave Brooks ably handled the Pledge of Allegiance and Arilla St Laurent presented an excellent invocation. The great Jack Mitchell led us in song. Past President Charley opened the meeting by thanking greeter Shirley Napierala and John O’Neill for the scribing duties. She also acknowledged the invaluable assistance of our setup crew Paul Donick, Dan Malloy and Gary Saks and our fine in-house pianist John Hawkins. Shirley introduced our guests and Jack regaled them with our special welcome song.

In the sunshine report, Don Lisio reminded us that the funeral service for Art Norby would be held on Wednesday, December 1st, in the lobby of The Remington (behind Von’s).

Troy Daum stepped up as auctioneer to offer up two items left over from the Outback fundraiser. Arilla had the winning bid of $30 for some beautiful flowers; and Karen Stelman paid $70 for a professional photography session.

It was announced that the weekly raffle is being discontinued because of negative tax consequences for the club. As a result, Finemaster John O’Neill took an extra long time to make up the difference, fining Arilla $5 for ruining his picture in the Paul Harris recipients group photo and $40 for those male members who were unable to attract a female member to share their table. A strong Happy Buck session ensued, with many members sharing positive stories.

Arilla, our second quarter speaker chair, introduced our speaker, Robin Hill. Mr. Hill shared information on PTSD (post traumatic stress syndrome), a condition that is far more prevalent among our troops than is currently being reported.

Showing he still has it going, Charley rang the bell and adjourned the meeting.

Meeting of 2 December 2010

By Suzie Lisio, President and Scribe

Suzie introduced and thanked the 1011 Board and called upon the “Administrative Level” for their reports: Gary Saks (Speaker Coordinator), Sandie Dewane (Publicity), Shirley Napierala (Membership), John Goodrich (the Rotary Foundation), and John O’Neill (Fundraising).

Karen, as “Service Coordinator” then called forward the six “Avenues of Service Chairs,” who reported on their goals and accomplishments: Bill Angus (Club Service), Sherry Collins (Vocational Service), Tom Giles (Community Service), Jason Salazar (International Service), Bill Angus (Youth Service), and Kathleen Smith (Senior Service). In a couple of cases, where these chairs were out-of-town or called away by business requirements, proxies filled in for them.
