Rotary meeting notes for Dec. 8, 2011
President-to-be Dave Brooks opened the meeting as the club that supports the Rancho Bernardo High School. Dave’s first act was to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. And, in a spectacular effort to carry the load, he also presented a fine invocation. Easy, Dave! There are plenty more meetings to come.

John Hawkins did his usual wonderful job entertaining us with his excellent piano renditions. Paul Donick substituted for Dave as greeter. John O’Neill was the scribe.
Jim Sommer presented the Tell-A-Troy report of ailing Rotarians. He related the details of a terrible accident in which Carl Hoffman was severely injured. The golf cart Carl was riding in lost power, rolled over on top of him, breaking bones and cracking five ribs. Carl, we hope you are better and back soon!
President-Elect Dave presented the following In the Bull’s Eye:
December is Family of Rotary Month. Club service is a vital part of our Rotary family’s health and growth. Dave said that fellowship is a key component of that service and he asked any Rotarian who has hosted a TGIX to please stand. He thanked them for their service and for building good will and better friendships. He advised us to seek out these Rotarians and ask them about hosting an event.
New Rotarian Bob Barr was inducted into our club. Welcome, Bob! Larry Valente paid us a visit and kindly stepped in to auction off some flowers and an Ann Calvert’s Rotary shirt. No, she wasn’t wearing it at the time. Charley Crew presented a $1000 RB Rotary Foundation check to SD Hospice. Don Lisio reported that he collected more than $800 from club members to fund Adopt-A-Family. Benita Page distributed the fund raising poinsettias and reminded us that the Interfaith Shelter Pantry food drive was wrapping up this Thursday. So, bring in those groceries on the 15th!
Our next Rotary Happy Hour meeting will be held Thursday evening from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at the URGE Gastro Pub near the Barrel Room. Please bring someone with you. Jeanne Hawkins announced that our club Holiday Party would be held this Friday, December 16th, at BHCC. Start time is 6:30pm
The highlight of the meeting was a musical presentation from the RB High Madrigals. Director Lisa Friedrichs led her talented group of singers in a spirited and interactive selection of holiday songs.
Great first meeting, Dave.
John O’Neill
