Rotary meeting minutes for 1/26/12
President Bill opened the meeting citing RB Rotary as the club “that supports Rotary Awareness Month through legacy community and new generations service projects in our community elementary, middle and high schools.”
He then moved on to acknowledge volunteers Bob Barr for giving the pledge, Mark Kersey for a fine invocation, Paul Donick as substitute greeter and John O’Neill as scribe.
Troy Daum reported on Family of Rotary by saying that Jack Mitchell is moving around now with the aid of a walker and is slowly improving. He also reminded the group that Bob Krejci’s memorial service was being held on Sunday at 1:30pm at the Eastview Community Center. Charley Crew announced that the Rotary Foundation Grant Application deadline was ending today. President Bill reminded all that the RB Happy Hour Meeting is being held this evening from 5:30 to 6:30 at the URGE Gastro Pub next to the Barrel Room.
Bob Barr shared some of his life story with his Who Am I.

Finemaster John O’Neill punished a couple of transgressors and collected a number of Happy Bucks.
John O’Neill shared the following information regarding our annual fund raiser:
1. Tournament scheduled for Monday, April 2nd at CCRB. The name of our tournament is Fairway to Honor.
2. Will be an upscale event – featuring private course golf, barbecue lunch before teeing off, amenities at various holes (wine), filet mignon & salmon dinner w/salad & dessert and a robust offering of prizes and auction item.
3. A meeting for all volunteers is scheduled for this coming Tuesday at 6:00pm. It will be held at Charley Crew’s home. Please note that this is our major fundraiser for the year and we need all hands on deck. We expect full participation from every club member to support this event. The money our club makes from this event is the money we use to help our community.
4. How can you help?
· By volunteering in planning for and working at the tournament.
· By putting together a foursome of your golfing friends, neighbors, associates or relatives. The more golfers we bring, the more money we raise. This is critical to success.
· By playing yourself or, if unable to play, by sponsoring at least one or more on-duty military service person for $200
· By becoming an event sponsor or hole sponsor ($200)
· By contributing a prize or auction item, ideally golf-related.
· By selling raffle tickets to everyone you know
6. Be sure to check out or website: fairwaytohonor.org. We will be using our new website to sign up golfers and allowing them to use their credit cards to pay.
7. We have 9 ½ weeks to go. There is a great deal of work to be done. I appreciate all of your help and your sense of urgency. Let’s work to make this the best fundraiser yet.
Our speaker was Scott Lewis from the Voice of San Diego, a non-profit, independent and insightful online news source that is focused on issues impacting the San Diego region. Its mission is to increase civic participation by giving residents the knowledge and in-depth analysis necessary to become advocates for good government and social progress.

Next weeks’ program will be the San Diego Center For Children with Rana Sampson.
The meeting adjourned right on time.
