Our new President, Bill Angus, called the meeting to order by announcing that our club supports the MusiCamp. Karen Stelman led the pledge, Maureen Rouleau the invocation and John Hawkins entertained us with his beautiful music during lunch. It was nice to see Jim Reading as our greeter...a job he seldom did as being Treasurer kept him tied to his chair at the front desk.
Bill provided us with a slide show of pictures from the 2011 RI Convention in New Orleans. He told us that "during the month of July we will be focusing on our club goals for the new year and this week we will focus on membership". He thanked Mike Sullivan for tackling the role of Membership Director. He also asked for a show of hands for those who are on the membership committee. About half raised their hands. The others forgot that we are ALL on the membership committee. They got fined $1 each! It is our responsibility to invite guests and grow our club so that we have the ability to help more people at home and around the world. Mike S. already represents us at the RBBA and San Diego North Chamber Events. We plan to join both as a non-profit so that we will be eligible for recognition for the work we do in the community through these organizations. Everyone should save the date of the evening of October 19, 2011 from 5 - 7 p.m. We will join 4 other Rotary clubs in our area in a joint mixer/networking event to attract new members. Details to follow.

The Sunshine Report will now be called "Family of Rotary Report", headed up by Troy Daum and a small committee. Harriet Mitchell, Jack's wife, is in Casa de las Campanas with a broken pelvis. Please pray for them and send a card to show your support. Bob Krejci is also not up to par and is planning to move from his home to an assisted living facility. A call would brighten his day, and maybe an offer to drive him to Rotary if he feels up to it. He is very alone.
"In the Bull's Eye" is President Bill's way of highlighting member service and its impact on our members. Dave Brooks was the first to be recognized with his NID trip to India, home of our new RI President. Mike and Karen Stelman were next for their trip to Uganda, Africa where they administered the life saving polio vaccine. This week, Bill chose to focus on a local cause that galvanized this community by the events of Feb. 25, 2010 at Rancho Bernardo Community Part. "A very humble and results driven Rotarian immediately stepped up to assist the King Family" when their daughter went missing. Bill recognized Tom Giles for putting aside his personal and professional life and immediately placed the needs of the King family and our community above his own. In the aftermath of that day, Tom has remained right by the King Family's side and helped them in forming the Chelsea's Light Foundation that serves as a symbol of hope to children, young adults and parents both locally and nationally. This was a true journey in "Service Above Self". Thank you Tom for your service and sacrifices.

Bill reminded us of the upcoming Centennial District Conference, combined with our Centennial Celebration and Foundation Seminar which will be held the weekend of Nov. 4 - 5 right here in San Diego. World famous ex-Rotary International Presidents Cliff Dochterman and Rick King will be speaking at the Conference. This phenomenal experience won't happy for another 100 years so don't miss this one. Glenn Erath will also be in attendance to entertain and delight us with his humor and songs. We'd love you to be a part of this. Please sign up on the district web site.

Our guest speaker was Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher who spoke to us on what is happening in Sacramento. Besides being a former Marine in the Counter-Intelligence Unit, he showed great knowledge and so many other subjects. He was refreshingly straight forward and talked about everything from his lovely wife and two children to climbing Mount Whitney and how it got its name. We should all be very proud he represents us so well at the State Capital. Arilla presented him with a book for our middle school as a speakers' gift.
Next week our speaker will be Sandy Lehmkuler who will talk to us about how her organization, Wounded Warriors, helps wounded and disabled military personnel.
