 Upcoming Meeting Program

Thursday 12 May 2011
The Charitable Giving Dilemma - A Case of Cuidad Oculta

George Helland will tell his story of joining a team to develop a day-care in the worst slum in Argentina. He will take us inside the slum by video, where we would not come out alive were we to walk the streets alone.

 Club Activity Highlights

Meeting of 5 May 2011

By Kathleen Smith, Scribe

President Suzie called the meeting to order at 12:30 pm

The Pledge was led by Mark Kersey. The Invocation was given by Rick Bramble. The Song, The National Anthem, was led by Jack Mitchell. Dave Brooks introduced the Visiting Rotarians and Other Guests, who were treated to our welcome song. The scribe was Kathleen Smith. Set-up was courtesy of Paul Donick, Dan Malloy and Gary Saks. Background piano was provided by Jack Mitchell.

The Sunshine Report was given by Don Lisio: Shirley Napierala's husband Jerry is now under hospice care. Her family is with them. Please keep them in your prayers. Bob Wells underwent orthopedic surgery today. Jim Sommer underwent rotator cuff surgery. John O'Neill's brother passed away suddenly.

"Who Am I " was cleverly given by Mark Kersey, including a picture of his son, representing his most important job.

Julie Miramontes asked for participation in the "Spirit of the Fourth" by purchasing a "calling card ad". They are $45 each, and the deadline is June 10. Samples will be available on June 30.

Karen Stelman gave a wrap-up report on the Rotarians-at-Work project on April 30. Three places were served: Casa de las Companas had visits from Suzie and Don, Jim Edwards , Mira, Benita and Pat Kenney; Ed Brown Senior Center had its windows washed by Dave Brooks, Don Glover and Marty Judge; and RB High had its roundabout rescued after 19 years, by Karen, Rick, Larry Valente, Ron Hunt, Ed Knight, and mostly by Mark Kersey and Troy Daum (the young guys) who did the heavy lifting. Everyone sweat a lot!

Suzie asked everyone to mark their calendars for Tues, June 7 for the District Governor's Awards Banquet. An email reminder will be coming.

Fines and Happy Bucks: Troy bemoaned the fact that there are so many fines, and so little time...awe! So $1 was assessed to all who did not wear spring clothes (he wore a pink shirt..can he be fined retrospectively?) Rick Bramble was happy that Karen helped him with his weight management program by making him work and sweat on Sat, and others...

Program: "Ready or Not? Preparing Your Family and Home For Disaster" was presented by Captain Tim McCully, U.S.Navy (Ret) and Point Loma Rotarian on tips for safety and "grab and go" supplies. See more on www.pointlomarotary.org or BEEARTHQUAKESAFE.com. The library book was presented by Dan Malloy.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:30
