1st Saturday Exchange at Abraxas Garden a Huge Success!

On Saturday, about 30 club members attended the tour of Abraxas Garden. The group was greeted by Bob Lutticken, teacher and garden master, who shared numerous stories about the history of the garden and how it provides a variety of learning opportunities for students. We sampled fresh cut carrots, celery, and broccoli dipped in home-made humus while taking the tour.

We learned more about the hydroponic system they use to grow an array of healthy vegetables and how the water is recycled and reused for irrigation. It was amazing to see how students prepare the mulch composted into a 3-step process to create rich soil. We toured the kitchen and observed how students learn to harvest, clean, and prepare vegetables into delicious, organic, meals through their culinary classes.

Every Abraxas student, general and special needs, leaves their mark on this unique ecosystem in some way effecting the functionality and output of this amazing garden. It makes us all proud to see the magic of this learning opportunity for students and to know that our club's generosity over the years has provided countless fruit trees, a filtration system, and a spacious deep freezer for storage.

Afterward, several of us met for lunch at Luna Grill as a way to say "Thank you" for their participation as a food vendor in Vines and Vittles last year. I am very pleased to share, that Manager Paul has already given a verbal "yes" to support V and V again this year! This folks, is the beauty of Rotary in action!

Music Competition Feb. 6 - Dinner meeting
Our next club meeting at The Heights is Thursday, Feb. 6. Dinner is at 5:30 and the Music Competiton is set for 6 p.m. Our very own Jim Reid will facilitate the competition of some of PUSD's finest musicians. You won't want to miss this event as it promises to be another delight! To accommodate time for student musicians to perform, our business that evening will be very light, leaving more time to enjoy the music!
Extended Silent Auction #2 Coming Soon!
This time, our silent auction prize will be a luscious basket of exotic wines and an assortment of gift cards. This should make for a very attractive gift basket to auction silently. We would love to add a few more gift cards to this tantalizing prize. Please consider buying a gift card to donate in lieu of happy bucks in the next couple of weeks. Or, if you have a nice gift card at home that you're not using, please consider donating it to our gift basket. As before, all auction proceeds go directly back to the club, and it will add some excitement to our club meetings. Contact VP Ken Heinz for more details.
